“Teaching is the essential profession, the one that makes all other professions possible.”

-David Haselkorn

I cannot think of any job as important as being a teacher. Teachers create the futures for everyone. I’ve been in the teaching environment for as long as I can remember. I always went to work with my mom as much as I could. As I got older I would help out in her classroom, helping students read or write or do math problems. Pretty soon I started helping all of the teachers in the buildings she worked in. I’ve always worked with children; I love it. I love seeing the look on their faces when they finally understand something. I want to make a difference in their lives.

I believe students, children and people should have an equal opportunity to learn, based on their needs, interests, and abilities because there are multiple ways for people to learn that corresponds with their needs, interests and abilities. If people don’t learn based on their needs, interests and abilities it might mean that they won’t even be able to learn at all. There’s a reason why there are different learning strategies. I believe learning is enhanced with hands-on material because students learn best when they are able to interact with what they are learning. When students are hands-on learning they get to explore things from every angle. I believe teachers should believe that all students can learn because teachers should always believe in their students. If students find out somehow their teacher does not believe they can learn, it can cause them to believe themselves that they can’t learn. I believe grouping promotes verbal communication with the interchange of ideas because when students are in groups they are able to communicate with each other their own ideas as well as hear the thoughts of others. It will broaden how they think of certain topics and can help each other learn and grow in education. I believe educational programs should encourage parents to participate in their child’s education because it is important for parents to be aware of what their children are learning and how they are behaving in school. Usually when parents are involved, from my experience, the students behave better and are more involved in school.

In my classroom I will always be sure to use the learning strategies that go along with my students to help them learn based on their needs, interests and abilities. I will incorporate more hands-on learning activities in order to help my students learn better. I will always believe in my students to ensure that in turn they will continue to believe in themselves. I will group students as often as I can to improve their communication skills and the ways in which they interact with others to further their learning. I will promote parent-teacher conferences and communication between the two as much as needed so that they will always be aware of how their child is behaving and learning.

I know that teaching isn’t an easy job. It’s a lot of work, a lot of work that I want to go through and put all of my heart into. I will ensure that my students will always be able to learn, learn in the way that suits them best and with hands-on activities. I want to help students believe in themselves and believe they can do anything they put their minds to. This is very important to me because I don’t like seeing students give up because no one has faith in them. If everyone had a little faith in everyone, it could help him or her accomplish more things. Teaching isn’t like any other job. Teachers are in charge of the learning of the students of the future. It’s our job to help them succeed so they can go on to bigger and better things. The world needs teachers that are willing and able to do the work, including inspiring these children to want to do more and be more. A young mind needs that inspiration to help them see what is out there and what can be possible of him or her. I don’t know why someone who doesn’t believe in his/her students became a teacher in the first place; teaching is about believing your students can learn and helping them get to that point.
